Studied in the Information Engineering department in University, which is a department “sounds” attractive, and I am now working in the IT field. As I expected before, this is a dangerous field, especially for those people who want to have a bright career and high-quality of life.
IT field is a field which cares about your working experience more than your academic history. So you have to put your dignity in the right place so that you can show up your working aspects when seeking greater jobs in the future. Different technologies will have different target companies. And the technologies keep updating. Once the technologies you have been using for long time are no longer popular on the market, you will be in trouble.
And IT field is a field for careful people to live. When there were 100 tasks, even you made 99 of them correct, the 1 mistake will destroy all your reliability in people’ s mind. And IT guys should always have the attitude of checking and testing. These make simple tasks tiring. After working in the previous company, I learnt that even the task is very very simple, always keeping in mind that there are still little chances to make careless mistakes. If you want to get promoted, please make sure that you can keep things without any little mistakes for a LONG period.
Each IT people have their own set of languages, this makes communication more complicated. And sometimes IT people need to deal with business people for collecting user requirements. Afterwards, need to consider about the feasibility, resource… etc. So basically, they need two sets of language. And when you become a manager in IT, you need to keep everything in mind thoroughly and without uncertainties. I always think that those people should have a super computer in their brain…
